School Pics

I promised I would post more school pics. Here is another layout I created with Scrappin' Daisies new kit Just Classy

I did recolor her fab polka dot paper. That's what I love about digital - you can recolor anything. Here's the layout I came up with
I want to give credit to Sarah Morgan Designs for the cute "first day of school" tag. Also, thank you Scrapper's Guide for the great August tutorial on grid templates.

And of course I had to create a template for all my fellow digiscrappers.
You can download HERE

On a side note, I want to apologize to Jessica Sprague. My copy of your template was done inadvertently. In the future I will investigate my scraplift more thoroughly. I guess I should scroll through my google reader slowly so I can remember where I see things.

Conversation with Breanna

So many times I've had an interesting or funny conversation with one of my kids and I forget to write it down. I'm so glad that I immediately jotted this one down.

Page Ideas folder

When I see a beautiful scrap page, I right click on it and save it in a folder called "Page Ideas" This helps me when my creativity well is running dry. Unfortunately, I don't always remember who made the layout. Yesterday, I gave away a template. One of the commenters told me that Jessica Sprague created the layout I based my template on. I may have seen it when I was browsing Jessica's blog. I'm just looking over that layout and it says in the corner "Shannon Bogan" so I'm pretty sure she was the creator. Anyway, kudos to her great layout!

Back to School

It's that time of year already. Where did the summer go? Yesterday was the first day of school for my three youngest - Charles, Jacob, and Breanna.

I scrapped Bre's first day of 1st Grade

I used Scrappin' Daisies new kit "Just Classy"

I'll post more school pics tomorrow.

Yippee!

Guess what. I am on a Creative Team! What does that mean for all you non-scrappers out there. It means that "Bethany" from "Brownie Scraps" liked my work enough to put me on her "Daisy Petal" team. Bethany is the designer who did the cute daily download for the month of August here. She made the announcement yesterday on her blog. I can't wait to start playing with her products. Expect to see some great layouts!

Maxine's one day of employment‏

So after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter, a good find for many retirees,
I lasted less than a day......

About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids,
yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.
As I had been instructed, I said pleasantly, 'Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?'
The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say,
'Hell no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7.
Why the hell would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?'

So I replied,

'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am,
I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice.
Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.'

My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work.

THIS ONE MAKES ME LAUGH EVERY TIME!

My son, Garrett and his friend Caleb left for Lake Powell on Thursday afternoon. On the drive down, they almost ran into a deer. This is what happened next

Treasure this day and treasure yourself and others

Brett's cousin, Bryce, died on Wednesday, August 5th. He battled colon cancer for over a year. He was only 37 years old. He left a beautiful wife and four young children.

Another dear friend of ours, Peter, was just diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. He is also in his thirties. I have had many sleepless nights thinking and praying about him.

I just found out another friend, in his twenties, was diagnosed with cancer.

My head is spinning. It all seems to make no sense. I woke up this morning with these words repeating over and over in my head "What am I supposed to learn?" What does God want me to know and understand from these experiences of the last month?

As I was thinking these thoughts I came across this blog post from Melissa Deakin

For some reason that leads me to thoughts of this song. I've always been touched by Michael McLean's music.

I think this is one of the many important things God has for me to learn this month!

Are you a visual learner?

I have had a few people ask me how to put video on their blog. It is so easy that I didn't feel it was really necessary to share. I realize now that everyone learns in different ways. When I was investigating how to put a You Tube video on my blog, I read through the Blogger help section. I am a very visual learner. For me, reading an instruction manual is much more difficult than having someone show me how it's done, so this wasn't the easiest way.

Enter - Google

Last week I was trying to load a pricing gun so I could put price labels on some products in the salon. It was impossibly hard even with the manual sitting right in front of me. So I googled "how do I load a monarch pricing gun" Up came a video. TA DA! Something that was taking 30 minutes to read, understand, and complete - took 2 minutes of video and a few foul words to finish.

HMMMM - Have you ever put together anything from IKEA? I wonder if IKEA could post video for all of their products? Maybe they already do?

If you learn better visually, you can learn how to upload video to your blog in less than 2 minutes. Take a look.

Picky Eater

I just finished scrapping this page last night and I posted for the first time in the Little Dreamer Designs Gallery here. I loved Tiffany Tillman's video tutorial on her blog. I learned a lot and used her template and instruction to create this fun page.

Journaling:
Brett was cutting zucchini squash and Breanna asked, “Why are you cutting that?”
Brett said “Because I’m going to cook it for dinner.”
Breanna said “I am totally not going to eat that!”
Words from a 5-year-old’s mouth. LOL!
Fortunately, there are a few things she will eat like this delicious crenshaw melon we took to Jordanelle.

Thanks for looking!

Surfer Girl and Shy Grandson

We just got back from our family reunion in Lava Hot Springs. I was looking through some videos Garrett took with his i-phone and remembered that I wanted to write about what a great surfer Breanna is turning out to be! In LHS there is a bridge that goes over the Portneuf River. Off of that bridge, a board is tied with a rope. If you are five years old and very persistent, you climb on that board over and over again until you are a surfer extraordinaire. Breanna is a little fish. She swam the river for hours and loved every minute.

My grandson, Charles, on the other hand, sat in the warm water that gurgles out into the river. It's actually really nice to just let the hot springs flow over you - very relaxing!

Summer Fun

We love to go to the West Jordan Pool. We bought a family season pass. The kids are as brown-skinned as ever - especially Charles! Here is a page I scrapped of our summer fun. Click on the image to view larger. TFL!

Lava Pinata

We just got back from the most fabulous family reunion in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. We took our trailer and camped in the "River's Edge Campground." We swam at the pool and hit the hot pools on the first day. The second day was spent tubing the "Portneuf River" The third day we hiked the mountain up to the "L" and the kids busted open the pinata. Here's the page I scrapped about this family tradition.

Brynn's First Birthday

My sweet granddaughter just had her first birthday. Here's the page I scrapped of that special occassion.

I Got A Feeling

My son, Garrett, left yesterday with his friend, Caleb, for the Idaho Brown Reunion. This morning I was listening to Black Eyed Peas "I Got a Feeling" as I checked my e-mail. I noticed this e-mail titled "Good times in the front seat of a car!‏" from Caleb (sent with his I-phone). I don't know if I should be freaked out or just laugh.

Take a look.

Yes, Garrett is driving while his head is out of the sunroof!

August Desktop

August first was my grandaughter's first birthday. In honor of her this is my desktop for the month. It comes from Designer Digitals. I get to look at this adorable face for the whole month - Yeah!
